A Personal Note from Sharon Gayle

Dear GayleFORCE Friends,

Another year has come and is almost gone. It’s hard to believe that the Holiday Issue of the GayleFORCE Fitness Newsletter has just been hit the press.

Thank you all so much for your well wishes and encouragement during the very rocky road to my final competition of the year, the NPC Eastern USA Championships. Your kind words were greatly appreciated. Many put a smile on my face, when smiling did not seem possible. The date, time, and eventually location, were changed due to the Tribecca Performing Arts Center’s downtown Manhattan location. The venue remained inoperable due to major damage incurred from Hurricane Sandy. I competed as planned, placing 7th in the Figure-Tall Class. Not what I had hoped for, but satisfactory. I remind myself that I have done well throughout my 4-years of competing, and that you can’t win them all. Plus, there is always next year! :-}

Saturday 6th October, 2012 was most definitely a good day! A big thank you to my friend Patricia for helping me prepare for Prejudging; Natalie for helping me prepare for Finals and calming my nerves with her wonderfully positive attitude and uplifting words. (Natalie, I am still blushing and so flattered by your “Statue” comment! You are too kind!) More thanks and hugs sent out to my beloved Mother, and friends for believing in me, and wanting only the best for me in my competitive career. And to all of the beautiful Competitors that I met on this day: Danny (Danielle), Victoria, Jalynn, Alix, Erika (and friend Erica - I hope I got that right:-), …THANK YOU for your kind words, compliments on my suit, and the huge HOORAH!!! that you all gave me when I came backstage with my trophies in hand. Backstage Chilling ...Offers great photo ops!

The win was exhilarating, while the competitor camaraderie backstage in the tiny changing room, was heartwarming! Competitors pitched in to help each other, pointed out things that the other may have missed, and suggested remedies for the usual mishaps that happen throughout backstage preparation. Backstage changing rooms is where bonding takes place, and where new friendships are often forged!

INBF Hercules 2012 - Commentary

Coverage of the 2012 INBF Hercules Bodybuilding Championships

Saturday 30th June, 2012 - Murray Bergtraum H.S., NYC.

Last year 2011, I presented trophies at the annual INBF Hercules Bodybuilding Championship. At this same event held Saturday 30th June, I decided to sit back, relax, and enjoy the competition.  And believe me, there was definitely Competition! There was a spectacular turnout of Athletes, all vying for the coveted Pro Card!!! With the season in full swing and the World Championships fast approaching (scheduled for November 9-10, 2012); there are few Pro-Q* opportunities remaining, for Amateurs to achieve Pro. Card status.

This group of athletes knew it, and brought their best packages to the stage. Many I had seen before on the stage; several were at last year’s Hercules and placed Top-5 (I presented them their trophies. But even those competitors were back in rare form. One such athlete was Patricia Greaves. Patricia took 1st Place, Masters Figure Over 40. Poised and confident …she knew she had brought her best physique to the stage. I’ve come to recognize that look of knowing you’ve done your best, and your best is making you stand out from the rest.

Another stand out competitor was Tyrone Robinson. Very rarely do I see a bodybuilder take the stage and move through his posing so effortlessly.  Smoothly transitioning from post to pose. It was just lovely to see. Calm, cool, and collected …and not a speck of sweat to be seen! This was definitely a visible claim to “practice making perfect”.  Suffice to say; Tyrone was the pround winner of his Pro Card having placed 1st and winning Overall in Open Bantam Weight.

A big hand also, to each and every competitor who graced the stage on that day, Top-Five or not, the minute you took the stage…YOU WERE A WINNER!

Here I am having a little fun during Prejudging Intermission with Amateur Bodybuilder and friend Tiffany Jackson. Tiffany was both beautiful and graceful on the stage. She placed 2nd in Open Women’s Bodybuilding. I’m sure we’ll be seeing her again soon. There is a Pro Card with her name on it! ~Sharon Gayle
